Rinko Kawauchi is such a photographer, she makes simple and lyrical images so fresh and unusual that they are difficult to describe or classify . His images document the everyday, but cannot be described as documentaries. They are usually light in tone, but somehow have a dark humor. They are dreamlike, almost hallucinatory, and yet they seem to capture something fundamental about the psychological state of modern life, like a series of still images from a movie about a dream.
