“A book out of measure because it carries a dream locked in a box.
It has its light and its mystery, its complexity and even its uneasiness and beauty.”
Alberto Garcia Alix.
In Greek mythology, the thousand personifications of dreams were called Oniros. The poet Hesiod considered them children of Nix, goddess of the night. And Euripides sons of Gea goddess of the earth and conceived them as demons with black wings. For many they were the children of Hypnos and they were in charge of bringing dreams to others. Every night they flew out on their black bat wings from a cave of Erebus, descendant of Chaos, through two doors. Those who left through the door of the horn gave rise to true dreams inspired by the gods, dreams that would be fulfilled. Those who came out of the ivory gate would give rise to false dreams. These are related to Epiales, the spirit of nightmares.
In this work I delve into the images that come to me from that cave in Érebo. Dreams and nightmares that speak from my unconscious, sometimes in the form of delicate and translucent metaphors, others in the form of direct and clear messages.
When I sleep, my mind becomes a collage of unpredictable images, meaningless stories that, of course, speak of me. In this project I try to decipher and dissect them, to understand that intense dialogue that many nights takes place in my cerebral cortex and that has to do with my experiences and emotions.
In short, "I dream what I am" is an intimate diary of my dreams and thoughts. A diary that began in the first days of confinement, back in March 2020, and that has helped me get to know and understand myself better, to show how I am and how I am experiencing this pandemic, through images, consciously or unconsciously. And it is that as Julio Cortázar wrote in his book “Except for the twilight”:
"I know that dreams can bring me horror as well as delight, lead me to discovery or lose me in an endless labyrinth; but I also know that I am what I dream and that I dream what I am. Awake I only half know myself, and insomnia plays dimly with that knowledge shrouded in illusions."
