Two key books for contemporary architecture were published in 1966: Complexity and Contradiction in Robert Venturi's Architecture and Aldo Rossi 's The Architecture of the City. In his most important book, Rossi gave a Copernican twist to the conception of the city that has marked architectural reflection to this day.
However, Rossi's concerns in that period were not reduced to what he called "urban science", but rather he also tried to put together a theory applied to the architectural project. This volume rescues three short essays by Rossi in which he explains a possible theory of the architectural project.
