The original idea is the realization of an artistic research project based on the confluence of two modes of creative narration that start from the same shared reality. Explore with the plastic and visual language about the tangible, the architectural space and the work process of a shipyard. Through the observation of daily activity and the relationship of man with the built fact and the sea, the two languages are interrelated in the search for a common place. The art to learn to read reality? Could be.
The space chosen for the action is Armada Shipyards, located in Bouzas, Vigo , since the 1920s and with almost a century of life after three generations of the same family inexorably linked to the sea and the history of the city.
The project is based on creative experimentation on the architectural space and the work of the operators in the shipyard. Place, architecture, sea and human factor. The initial idea of the process is known but not the end. The development parameters are intuited but neither how nor what its final destination will be. In some way, a fundamental part of the idea is there, on the road ahead, the search for a route for which the compass is superfluous but intuition and the concern to find are necessary.
In September 2016, Ramón Trigo moved his workshop to Astilleros Armada. There, for more than nine months, he will live with the workers reinterpreting the activity of the shipyard filtered by his plastic vision. At the same time, Eduardo Armada documents the entire action on video and photographs. The process makes them one man. The artist and his shadow. Two visual forms of narration where painting suggests and video and photography document.
At times the project multiplies and when the narrations are intertwined they are much more than two. The whole is not always the sum of the parts, sometimes as in Pantoque it is even more . Much more.
The plot axis of the project could be and is Vigo, a city of shipyards and Galicia, a country of the sea. On the other hand, it is also the human factor and the naval architecture. Resistance and history of a construction process with forms and modes in danger of extinction. But it could also be the passage of time and the enduring. From the ephemeral and within a context of constructive poetics there is a fragile and almost intangible cultural heritage that must be revealed, translated and reinterpreted.
