MUSEUMS AND CONTEMPORARY ART CENTERS IN SPAIN

In the last three decades, the map of museums and contemporary art centers in the Spanish state has changed radically . From a scandalous absence of museums and centers that attend to the art of our days we have arrived, at the beginning of the 21st century, to an abundance that is as exaggerated as it is difficult to maintain. The cycle of growth ends with an economic crisis that threatens the survival of many of these centers and shakes the barely drawn map of a country that has been updated in artistic structures and content.

A Museology project, carried out by Exit Publicaciones, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Culture through its General Directorate of Fine Arts. More than two years of documentation, writing and production work have been necessary to gather scattered and variable information, in continuous movement, which for the first time can be seen gathered in a single volume. 103 art centers, museums and public and private institutions that are mainly dedicated to the conservation, exhibition, production and dissemination of international and national contemporary art are brought together in a total of 288 full color pages, profusely illustrated with photographs of the buildings, the exhibition halls and other facilities and some of the essential works of these museums. Each center or museum appears with a detailed technical sheet with all the necessary data to know its characteristics and history ; that of the building, that of the collections and that of its activities. A text reviews its line of work, historical stages and most outstanding events, the pieces of its collections, the most important samples, giving enough information to know the variety and characteristics of all these centers that seek the education, enjoyment and enrichment of all visitors and art lovers of our days.
