Inspired by the title of a poem by the Finnish writer Aaro Hellaakoski, Me Kaksi (which would translate as "the two of us") celebrates the fortuitous meeting, the strange closeness, the presence in the world of two beings.
Throughout more than forty years of pilgrimages around the world, the photographs in this book, which combine a selection of iconic and some unpublished, reproduce these fleeting moments surreptitiously captured by Pentti Sammallahti .
The idea of the duo, the couple, of all kinds of accomplices appears recurrently in the photographer's work. Whether they are lovers, friends, children, passers-by, travellers, neighbors but also a man and his dog, two birds... these images speak of attachment, tenderness, the universality of the affective bond, "being in the world together".
