Laurel Mountain Laurel: The title is a kind of crude palindrome, typical of Jake Reinhart's vision, in which time reflects on itself and the end is also the beginning (and is also the end). The transitory and the lasting are revealed as one and the same.

These somewhat tender and ruthless photographs were taken in southwestern Pennsylvania, in the Youghiogheny region. A surviving translation says that "Yough" means four, and "henné" means current. “I have been along those four streams and seen how they come together;” Reinhart says, "losing their specificity but retaining what is inherent in each: creating something greater and uniting places and people that would otherwise seem disjointed and separate."

As for the streams, the same goes for the images of Laurel Mountain Laurel: the individual images essentially exist, while together they bridge both space and time: the eternal and the geological brought to an appearance of coherence with the fragile and the human. We see that despite our best efforts to erase and exploit, the earth will eventually go its own way and on its own timetable.
