Obsessed with flea markets, junkyard auctions, and thrift stores, Nadia Lee Cohen collected the ID cards of 33 unknown people.
From these remnants of recent urban history, she created characters, visualized them, and finally transformed into them. The photographic portraits and the resulting book are the product of many hours of costuming, makeup, and prosthetics.
Each portrait in the book is accompanied by a full-page still life; objects and belongings that Nadia has been acquiring to give details to her characters, such as the contents of a bag, a desk drawer or the glove compartment of a car.
Texts attributed to each of the 33 characters are also included in the book. Nadia's own monologues recorded on video during the photo sessions, with which she helped herself to find and embody the characters
