After the traumatic experience of the previous year, 2021 was the year of overcoming the pandemic and the beginning of the long-awaited return to normality. The AV MonographsYearbook reviews the most relevant events of the period and covers twenty-four buildings that represent the best of the architecture built in Spain. In addition to some great works, such as the Library of Córdoba by Paredes Pedrosa or the sports city of Celta by Irisarri Piñera, the selection reveals the consolidation of a new approach to the discipline as a response to the climate crisis, especially in young architects, who they propose the use of sustainable materials, such as wood, used in the Peris Toral and Bosch Capdeferro homes, in the Josep Ferrando Fire Station, or in the small Behark social pavilion; or local stone, such as sandstone in the homes of Carles Oliver's team and in the Josep Lluís Mateo photographic center. That same environmental vocation has led to a proliferation of rehabilitation projects, such as those of a small union headquarters built by Sert and Torres Clavé in 1936, and an industrial complex from 1939, recovered respectively by Meritxell Inaraja and Jovino Martínez Serra. Integration and dialogue with the place are at the center of other projects of the year, such as the delicate intervention by Juan Domingo Santos in the Alhambra, or the fauna observatory by Rafael de La-Hoz, inspired not only by the landscape in which it is inserted, but also in the peculiar construction tradition of the area. In addition, like every year, Luis Fernández-Galiano analyzes the most outstanding issues on the international scene, going through the twelve months through the front pages of the press, and selects the twelve most outstanding buildings built in the world.
