"Disputes about the contemporary. Spanish art between anti-Francoism and postmodernity" proposes to analyze contemporary Spanish art as a field of tensions in which the participating agents —institutions, critics, historians, curators, artists, etc.— dispute positions from which compete for legitimacy, prestige and power.
To fix a place of enunciation in the field it is necessary to appeal to a story. That is to say, all enunciative positioning requires a more or less solid historical narrative that defines a line of action and grants certain functions to art in the society of its time. Through a concatenation of case studies, this book studies some of the main discourses —only some, of course there have been other voices and programs— that have laid the foundations, with more or less success, of interpretive models from which to assess artistic production. of the past, legitimize that of the present and, consequently, guide that of the future.
