This book marks the culmination of the long-term Matt Black series, begun in 2013. Magnum photographer has traveled the United States, throughout length of almost 160,000 km, drawing up an intransigent inventory of present-day America, focusing more particularly on these peripheral cities and their precariousness. of everyday life through powerful and meticulously composed black and white images. What began as a story about isolated communities has over the years become a portrait of an increasingly divided country where inequalities and disparities grow. Completed in 2020, after the visit to the last state, this series is accompanied by the artist's travel diary, which combines his personal notes and collections of found objects.
