The project was photographed in the early 1990s when Cammie Toloui was working as a stripper at San Francisco's Lusty Lady Theater to fund her photojournalism degree at San Francisco State University. Customers who paid to see her naked body and watch her perform sexual acts on herself were offered a discounted price if they agreed to be photographed. The resulting series of black and white photographs, baroque in dramatic lighting, is free from prejudice. Instead, they are convincingly imbued with a deep sense of curiosity and understanding, and each photograph reveals a broad spectrum of sexuality, fetishes, and often deprived aspects of masculinity.
