Decades of valuable images, now summarized in 512 pages of photographs that constitute the definitive retrospective of the work of Nobuyoshi Araki, selected by the artist himself .

Originally published as a limited edition and now available in a new compact format, this selection delves into Araki's best-known themes: Tokyo street scenes, faces and food, sensuous brightly colored flowers, female genitalia, and kinbaku, the Japanese art of tie with ropes As the girls lie restrained but defiant and brightly colored petals take suggestive shapes around them, Araki constantly plays with the motifs of subjugation and emancipation, death and desire, while combining serene and powerful imagery.

Describing his photographs of bound women as “ a collaboration between the treated characters and the photographer ”, Araki seeks to approach his female characters through photography, emphasizing the role played by conversations between the models and himself. In his homeland of Japan, many women worship Araki, feeling liberated by his willingness to photograph the expression of their desire.
