From the legendary Tank Girl comic book series to the animations of the virtual band Gorillaz , to forays into contemporary Chinese opera and an exhibition at London's Saatchi Gallery , artist, composer and designer Jamie Hewlett is one of the most prolific and scholars of contemporary pop culture .

With influences as diverse as hip-hop and zombie movies, Hewlett broke through in the mid-1990s as the co-creator of Tank Girl, a comic book series that distilled the spirit of an age. With his roommate Damon Albarn he created the revolutionary musical group Gorillaz . The successful virtual pop band made up of cartoon characters is a global phenomenon. Gorillaz have topped the charts, toured and toured the world from San Diego to Syria, racking up millions in streaming and record sales along the way.

Since then, Hewlett has continued to collaborate with Albarn on projects such as Wu Cheng'en's exquisitely elaborate staging of the Chinese novel Monkey: Journey to the West , featuring circus acrobats, Shaolin monks and Chinese singers. In 2006, the London Design Museum chose him as its designer of the year, and in 2009, he and Albarn received the BAFTA Award for the animated sequence Monkey for the Beijing Olympics . In 2015, in an exhibition entitled The Suggestionists, he has exhibited his graphic work at the Saatchi Gallery in London, where the new direction that Hewlett's exciting career has taken has become clear.

This compact format edition illustrates her fascinating creative journey through more than 400 works from the days of Tank Girl to Gorillaz and current works. Through plots, characters, comic strips and sketches, this book traces Hewlett's exceptional inventiveness and pays tribute to a polymath artist who is not resigned to resting on his laurels or being pigeonholed in a specific artistic field.
