Angelika Kauffmann (1741–1807) is considered the first female artist of European prestige . Well educated and very well connected, she enjoyed an international reputation. He developed a brilliant career and was one of the most outstanding artistic personalities of the Classical Age in London and Rome. She was admired by Goethe and Herder and her clients included queens and emperors from all over the continent.
His remarkable life and work are presented in this publication through 100 of his best paintings and drawings, including many new discoveries. This monograph focuses on Kauffmann's impact on England, especially as the first female member of the Royal Academy of Arts , as well as her work as a pioneering history painter, fashion portraitist, and advocate for a new ideal of masculinity.
